Each piece embodies dips, variations, irregularities and imperfections, this is what we love most. We are intentionally celebrating the uniqueness of this beautiful traditional craft. Uniquely handcrafted using a natural stone tile inlay method of traditional furniture making. Please read the product details carefully prior to purchasing.

This is a unique craft and we encourage you to learn more about the beautiful journey behind its origins. It is one that we are very proud of and hold very close to our hearts. Please visit the En Gold Journal to read more.

Details

MATERIAL:

Fossilized Limestone this is a natural product and if you look closely you can observe naturally occurring fossilized seashell and organic characteristics throughout, no two pieces are exactly the same. As such, each tile will have its own set of unique characteristics. Although our artisans try their best to classify the stone into common groups, visible contrast between the tiles may occur. Our stone, as with almost all types of stone, has filler in holes and gaps to provide an even surface, this is not a flaw, it is a part of the stonework process.

THE CRAFT:

Handcrafted using a unique stone tile inlay craft, traditional to the Philippine Islands.

Our stone is quarried by hand and is considered a fossilized limestone, which is then carved by hand into smooth and rough tiles. Limestone can be a soft and porous material, we use a marine grade hollow timber form to align the tiles, with provides a strong and stable form.

Surface tiles are polished to seal and protect against moisture and stains. Care will still need to be taken to ensure you get longevity from your piece.

Variations

  • Natural stone comes with its own unique variation and organic flaws. This includes colour and textural variation and should be expected.
  • Slight imperfections are a part of the handmade process using this natural material, this is what makes each piece unique and should be expected.

Despite every effort to provide accurate images of each product’s color and design, actual colors and design may vary slightly, due to different device screen settings, the lighting in the installation location, slight differences in product finishes over time and other factors.

Assembly

The item comes in separate pieces. Click here to learn more.

All items have been fitted with adjustable feet. If the floor surface is uneven, you may simply unscrew the adjustable feet to the desired height until the item is sturdy.

When moving your item, always disassemble first prior to moving. Move the base to the desired location and then re-assemble with top to the base as per the assembly instructions. Do not attempt to move the item with the top and base attached. The base is heavy and the weight may cause the top to become dislodged or the screws to strip out. The screws and base plate have not been designed to hold the weight of the base when lifted.

Moving & Caring

  • Please take care when moving your piece. Do not push or drag along ground as this may cause structural damage, chipping or cracks. Avoid using the item for any purpose other than it's designed use, this includes standing or sitting on top of the item. The limestone tiles should be treated with the fragility and care of a porcelain or glass tile. Hard impact, dropping or dragging can shatter or break the tiles.
  • Designed for indoor use only.
  • Avoid contact with substances that contain an acidic component (such as citric foods/ alcohol/drinks or some sticky tapes) as they may cause etching on the surface. Avoid leaving moisture or wet substances on the surface of your item for extended periods as this may cause damage to the finish of the stain.
  • Attend to spills immediately and ensure to use coasters to avoid liquid contact which may cause ring marks.
  • To clean simply use a damp soft, clean cloth to wipe the surface. Avoid any abrasive or harsh cleaning products that are not specifically designed for this material.
  • For rough stone tiles, you may use a gentle soft bristle tooth brush and warm water with mild soap to gently scrub the surface.
  • We recommend using Lithofin Stone Care Products that have been selected for cleaning, protection, and stain removal.
